Colombian Decaffeinated coffee is grown in high altitudes in the Colombian Andes, famous for its moderate acidity, smooth finish with nutty overtones & rich medium body. Colombia is famous for producing gourmet coffee but its decaffeinated offering seems to be one of the most popular coffee offerings for many decades already.
All though the majority of coffee roasters around the world desire to trade with Swiss water processed decaffeinated coffee (the only 100% organic method of decaffeination), the extremely low demand for decaf in combination with the relevantly low quantity of coffee processed this way, makes the process of obtaining this kind of coffee very difficult.
We do not trade coffees where the decaffeination process was done either via Methylene Chloride or Ethyl Acetate. The decaffeinated process of the decaf coffee we offer was done via the CO2 method (repetitive water blasting combined with liquid CO2).
Allow us to conclude on the subject by offering you our 5c worth of opinion on the matter of decaffeination:
Whilst you must carry on with the hunt for the most naturally decaffeinated coffee offering in the market, try – if possible – to “create” your solution by identifying a relevantly dark roasted coffee(the majority of the caffeine content is removed during the roasting process) with very gentle characteristics (coffees of Arabica origin tend to offer these characteristics), choose to brew 5gm per cup using a plunger / French press (the only coffee brewing method that does not involve force of any kind that could raise dramatically the coffee’s natural acidity levels), let it sit in the plunger for 5 minutes (let the coffee oxidation by getting soaked in hot water subside) and pour yourself a cup. If need be, add hot water.
