Derrich’s coffee creation: My passion for coffee was born from exposure to cultures and traditions throughout the world. As a child I never drank coffee, My first job in media afforded me the opportunity to visit countries where drinking coffee is part of everyday life, and it grew on me. Working odd hours in radio and TV, I needed my morning and evening kicks for focus to get through the stress of the day. I live healthily and like my coffee black, strong and freshly brewed, no sugar, and that is why I am easily pleased with only the best. DERRICH SE MOER (Moer is the Afrikaans for coffee) was my own taste preferences that forced me to mix selections of coffees to please my pallet. The taste is unique! Then I found a supplier who fulfilled that exact need. I am thankful and honoured to share the mix that gives me great joy and happiness. A kick-with-style to give every coffee snob a moment of absolute pleasure..
Master blender’s notes:
Derrich Se Moer, ended up being a coffee blend that has the ability to survive enormous amounts of milk or sugar involved in the cup (think 1/3rd of the cup being milk with 3 tea spoons of sugar dancing around)…delivering a coffee sensation dramatically underlined by strong woody & chocolaty notes, mixed with a dark spicy elements from the roasting process. This blend’s domineering coffee element comes from Uganda and is definitely not for the faint of heart / light coffee drinkers.
The 1st coffee used in this blend comes from an area close to Sipi falls and on the western slopes of Mt. Elgon – Uganda. (Growing Altitude: 1300 to 2200 meters / Variety: Arabica Typica / Milling Process: Fully washed).
Next to such presence, the 2nd coffee had to be equipped with elements of brightness and acidity. The answer was found within the Sidama region – Ethiopia (Growing Altitude: 1700 to 2200 meters / Variety: Arabica Kurume / Milling Process: Washed).
The 3rd coffee had to be a Brazilian one – the coffee that would bring balance to the existing mix, by introducing smoothness & sweetness (Growing Altitude: 800 to 1350 meters / Variety: Arabica Catuai / Milling Process: Dry).
